The Devil’s Advocate

I’m hoping Taylor Caldwell’s early fifties novel “The Devil’s Advocate” is sort of The Grand Banana Republic’s version of Orwell’s “1984” (or maybe “1984” meets “First Blood”? As yet I have no idea.) I was in a used bookstore near Princeton University (er, that would be in Princeton, NJ) and the back cover of the mass paperback edition caught my attention: “…the devastating portrait of an honorable man and the beautiful woman he loved, and their struggle against a world of the ruthless and the perverse.” Evidently it caused quite a stir back then, and according to reviews it’s even more relevant for today.. Anyway, I’ve just started reading it now so I’ll let you know if it lives up to the cover..
