In Detroit there’s “an old woman who hasn’t opened her windows in a decade, afraid that what’s outside will climb inside. Inside, there is the stale odor of dead air.” Of course another woman has a worse problem: the dead air is outside, a corpse, and it’s been there over six hours. Here. BTW this article at the NYT’s link is written by Charlie LeDuff, author of “Detroit: An American Autopsy.”
Detroit update: This is funny, but of course in a cynical sneering way: Did you know that in Detroit some (perhaps many) of the criminals– those guys who rob you in broad daylight– are kops?
