In the deep

Recommended: “The Last Train to Zona Verde: My Ultimate African Safari” by Paul Theroux. “There was no end to this township: the hostels led to the shacks, the shacks to the hovels, the hovels to the roadside and the bungalows, and beyond the bungalows and shebeens were the newcomers in the twig and plastic lean-tos, straggling across the flatland.” A few years ago I read another of his African adventures, “Dark Star”. This latest is so far much darker and frightening, like having shovelfuls of anarchy thrown in your face. Africa was so bad that for the first time Theroux decided to get the hell out of there. By the way you have to see the Vice guide to Liberia.
