Yes, behold the joy. The Islamic United Arab Emirates’s highest Islamic court has ruled that women and children cannot be beaten so badly as to leave marks. In the Islamic world this could actually be considered a step upward (I mean, compare it to stoning). Tourists: keep in mind that if you’re a woman (and/or a child) just visiting the UAE this same Islamic rule will apply to you; you’re husband will be allowed to slap you silly (you’ll have to wait till you get back home to beat him).
